The German Shepherd
Dog is well known for their intelligence, loyalty and willingness to serve mankind. For
a century GSDs have stood by our side, serving as police officers, as guide dogs, in
the military, in customs, on search & rescue teams, as herding dogs and as our protectors.
By far their most important job of all: best friend to their
humans. Perhaps more than any other breed, the German Shepherd has
eagerly worked for and loved mankind. We at SOS German Shepherd Rescue feel it is
only right that we return their devotion, repay their loyalty, and do all we can for
them in their hour of need.
In shelters all over
the Midsouth, German Shepherd Dogs are at risk of being put to death due to space
considerations. The problem is there are just TOO MANY HOMELESS DOGS and not enough
adoptions.
"Never doubt that a
small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."-
Margaret Mead

We need temporary Foster Homes, periodic assistance with transport,
donations to help with medical expenses that too frequently exceed
incoming adoption fees, and general assistance getting the word out. Please
talk to your friends, neighbors and co-workers. Tell them that there
is no need to breed or to buy when so many good dogs are needlessly
slaughtered due to pet overpopulation. Please Spay and Neuter
Your Pets. Rather Than Breed or Shop, Please Adopt!

Owner
Surrender Policy
We are a foster-home-based
rescue that tries to first save those dogs at risk in local shelters. However,
we can help you re-home a german shepherd in need by offering a courtesy post
on Petfinder. (The dog must MEET OUR REQUIREMENTS - be spayed/neutered and have a
sound temperament.)
If you are willing to continue
caring for your pet (or a stray) until a suitable new home can be found, see Owner
Surrender. Please DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. These things take time but
we'd be happy to help. It is
preferable to seeing good dogs be unnecessarily put down in the shelters.
Can You Provide Temporary Foster Care?
Unfortunately
all our foster homes are
currently full but with each new foster home we can add to
our network at least one life is saved.
If you feel you can provide a safe
loving temporary home for a GSD until a loving
forever home can be found, please let us know by completing our Foster Home
Questionnaire.
Most
of the GSDs we rescue from shelters have not been taken care of emotionally or
physically but the most common reason that they have ended up in shelters is that
their people simply didn't care enough; Did not care enough to properly
ensure their safety with secure fencing, to make sure they had ID tags or were micro
chipped in case they got lost, Did not care enough to protect them from
preventable illness, Did not care enough to provide the structure and training to
avoid behavioral problems, Did not care enough to simply bring them in the house,
talk to them occasionally and tell them that they were loved.
These
wonderful dogs need us. They need you! All they desire is a bit of TLC and to be
part of
a family, not thrown out
in the yard and left alone. He or she is your new best friend, not to be
abandoned or neglected, but to be loved and treasured. We at Save Our
Shepherds GSD Rescue want to help you form that special bond with your new family
member so that soon you will be telling others where you found the best canine
companion you've
ever had.
